The attacks on U.S. diplomatic posts not only exposed our disturbingly weak foreign policy. They also revealed how effortlessly the Obama administration lies.
The notion that a 15-minute YouTube video spontaneously led to the attack in Benghazi that left our ambassador to Libya and three other U.S. personnel dead, then to violence against numerous embassies elsewhere, was thoroughly discredited as the facts on the ground became clear. As Sen. John McCain pointed out, "most people don't bring rocket-propelled grenades and heavy weapons to a demonstration."
Libyan interim-President Mohammed el-Megarif made a compelling case that the actions were planned by outsiders who arrived in Libya months ago. Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., noted that Egyptian intelligence "put out a letter talking about the potential threat of an attack, uprisings, about a week before this," which was reported by the Jerusalem Post.
West was responding to a question on Fox News Sunday about the curious position of Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, who earlier told Fox she "absolutely" believed White House Press Secretary Jay Carney's contention that "this is not a case of protests directed at the United States writ large, or at U.S. policy; this is in response to a video that is offensive."
The congressman called Rice's statement "asinine, naive, inept, incompetent and borderline ignorant." But he was being charitable. Motivated purely by politics, Rice disgraced her high office. [link]
Rice makes herself look silly. And her boss grossly vainglorious.
Just level with us. We can handle the truth.
